The Steering Wheel of Life

The Steering Wheel of Life

(Faith Builders)

 Genesis 1:26‭-‬27

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”  So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. NIV

Genesis 1:-‬27

So God created humans in his image. In the image of God he created them. He created them male and female. GW

God is a Word oriented being and in His infinite wisdom He created us as word oriented beings. He created us this way so we could relate to Him and fellowship with Him, communicate with Him, and He with us. Now the short version is this was lost in the fall of man. However, through Jesus was restored back to us. Obviously there is a whole lot more we could get into in this area which I encourage anyone to study for themselves. But here is the point, humans were created as word oriented beings. God created us to operate and to function in life with words, His Words just like He does.

Proverbs 18:20‭-‬21

A man's [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil]. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life]. AMPC

 James 3:2‭-‬4

For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature. If we set bits in the horses' mouths to make them obey us, we can turn their whole bodies about. Likewise, look at the ships: though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines. AMPC

Scriptures reveal our tongue is our steering wheel. It's our steering wheel for life. Now you might say it seems you are being a little extreme. But if we were created by God to use words and live by words, and of course His Words being the best choice in this area, then you be the judge on how serious we should take this. Ask yourself this question, the words I use, which come out of My mouth and the words I use to think on, are they good words? Do these words agree with God’s Words or are they a little bit negative? Do they build me up, bring a positive attitude to my heart, or tear me down? Look at the design of them and determine for yourself. What will those words produce? When you speak, what did your words create, what did they set you in line with?

Matthew 12:36‭-‬37

But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, non working) word they speak. For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.  AMPC

Proverbs 13:3

He who guards his mouth preserves his life,  But he who opens wide his lips  shall have destruction. NKJV

Of course everyone can believe whatever they want in this area. You can put a guard on your tongue or not, but whether you like it or not you are the one in charge of steering your life. Now if you want to build a  strong faith then I suggest, grab a hold of the steering wheel. Start steering your ship. Here are three helpful tips.

Training is to be Proactive

  1. Train yourself to guard your own mouth. Watch, Monitor, and Judge the words you speak. See if they are useful, positive, full of faith, and if they agree with God's Words.

  2. When you catch yourself saying the wrong words, correct your words and say the right words. Practice this and you are taking control of the steering. You are learning to steer properly.

  3. Listen to what comes out of the mouth of people around you. It will give you great insight into this whole realm. When and if possible, without being noticable, reach over and slightly help them steer their ship, again if possible without them knowing. This is to build them up, to lift and encourage them. It doesn't matter if they are a christian or not. Again, you are trying not to draw attention to what you are doing. This allows you to help your brother or sister and maybe change their outlook even if it's just for a day. This will also help teach and train yourself on speaking right.

Matt 12:33-35

33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. NIV

Remember out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, so what is in an abundance in your heart? What have you stored up in your heart?

1 Peter 3:10-11

For, "Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.

11 He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it. NIV
