No Fear Here

All of us right now are relying on the news agencies to keep us informed on what is happening in our town, city, state, nation, and world concerning covid19. We are in new territory and facing different challenges daily. What will be the outcome from it all?

As I battle my own fears and thoughts this scripture came to mind a couple of days ago. So I decided it was for me personally to meditate on and get some full understanding as to all it meant.

2 Timothy 1:7

For God has not given us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but  (He has given us a spirit) of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline (abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self control).AMP

I like the Passion version which says;

For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control.

So this fear is obviously not from God, it isn’t even a form of wisdom, it is plain ol fear and it doesn’t come from Him. What He does give me are all those other things listed in this scripture that I believe will help to get me through this unsettling time we are all experiencing.

He has given us, according to scripture, power, love, and sound judgement and personal discipline. These abilities result in a calm, well balanced mind and self-control. I can rest assured that no matter what I hear or read I can tap into the Spirit who gives me peace of mind and rest in knowing that God is my source.

Based on that scripture these are the things I can have instead of fear;

  1.   I have the ability to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit who gives life to me (John 6:63). That life gives me so much hope for the future whereas fear only gives me despair.

  2.   Love, how is that the opposite of fear? Right now you see many people are hoarding supplies for themselves. Fear motivates selfishness. Love for others motivates action on our part to be a blessing and help those in need.

  3. Sound judgement or self-control is what I can have in place of fear. If I make decisions based on fear it will not be sound wisdom.

I can’t spend the majority of time reading all the news items of the day without giving just as much time or more time to the scriptures. If I don’t feed my faith with truth then I will give into the fear.
